Hey everybody  (in my best DR. Nick Rivera impersonation),  I'm 3rdCoaster.   I use the moniker Caljim on another site, but that handle is from long ago and not quite appropriate today...In any case, like the title says...I'm here to kill them all!  Wait typo..I'm here to grow all the kill!  Whatever, ...its been a couple months since I have been able to flower and with three months lead time before anything new is dry and ready to smoke..its time to get off my ass.

I started some new seed stock back in January, and then quickly became unable to do a lot more than veg them...this did give me a good chance to get them sexed and cloned.  And to practice my skills keeping bonzai moms...but I digress.  So here we are, or were, two weeks ago ..with all these plants that I have just been dying to flower and I'm finally ready, as I'm going to get...so Here we grow.

Lets start with the corner stone of my garden, BOG's Lifesaver.  Sweet, hashy, candy goodness.  She has been with me since 2006 and is going nowhere but back into flower.   The name is no misnomer...Lifesaver is truly a therapeutic plant (pain mngt, relaxes nervous system,... gets you high as hell to boot.

Lifesaver

Next up is Apocolypto f2s (Swampboys via Bakedbeans)  Nice Sativa selection...flavors of  pine, cinnamon and sweet rice milk.  Very euphoric high.  Sweet on the lips, and no slouch in the yield dept.

IMG_20170902_182802.thumb.jpg.e67f848b0278704a5c5181806a4bc9dc.jpg

Continuing with the Swampboys gear is Horace (Banana OG x Nigerian)...these are feminized.   Two selections from these.  They share a very similar stature to the Apocolypto, and that is a good thing. Here is one for example...

IMG_20170902_182754.thumb.jpg.8e6dee9f7fbb435a952a835a0f9af6e5.jpg

Then a couple of ChunkyPigs SFV OG x Cookieboi.  These came as a bonus with a pack of his GorillaBreath...dont tell...i really wanted these all along..AND to whom ever got those two relisted packs of Scoutbreath on GLG yesterday...good for you! You caught me in a moment of indecision and then they was gone.

SFV OG x Cookieboi......Lower left corner...I'll get a better pick of the two of them tomorrow.....looks almost exactly like lifesaver.

IMG_20170902_175104.thumb.jpg.a2d6fd03e8eabaa517293216d46da3a8.jpg

NEXT ...3 "Sweet and Sour Pork" from Andromeda Stains...nice mix of ECSD and their Hogzilla (indica dom).  The one I'm keeping my eye on is a real fat leaf stinker with a little bit legs.  Shown here...Pics of the other 2 to come.

IMG_20170902_184001.thumb.jpg.b1eeaa5b5a8a94c43a217c7b3805a100.jpg

Last but not least, a cross I made myself.  I used a Lower Mainland Zone male, from TyneheadToms Out to lunch Bucnh seed op, with moderate stretch and prolific flower set to dust a vigorous, prolific female SummerBreeze (Swampboys) that just reeked of fresh orange and hash ,but had a bit too much stretch and the flowers needed a bit of density.   Time will tell.  2 to choose from.  One of each looking like mom and dad, both with more LMZ shaped fans.

Okay.....Here is that LMZ X SummerBreeze....

more mom.

more dad...

IMG_20170902_182402.thumb.jpg.36cd6ba8874cdb9996ac610d3c6713ca.jpg

AND....here is the image of Lifesaver that did not show in the first post....

IMG_20170902_184141.thumb.jpg.9fd3f61a4b97ae3e41fc1d40ac7c1493.jpg

Right, so....these plants are all just starting to stretch at just about a week of 12/12.  Ill spread them out to 3 tables as they stretch and start to crowd each other.  They are all in 3 gals of coco getting fed once a day currently, and will go to a multifeed setup as they need it.  Nutrients are Jacks Hydroponics and i am giving a little bit of ReCharge a whirl this round to add a organic component.

Anyhow...thanks for stopping in, and don't be shy.

Ok, so I grabbed a couple pics of the Chunky Pigs SFV OG X Cookieboi plants...gotta say, I like what they are doing so far...similar in stature, ones a little "thicker"

Out of the dozen plants in the room, I have only run the Lifesaver and Apocalypto before.  That leaves me 9 plants with yet unknown tendencies and desires.

For instance Horace (Banana OG X Nigerian).  Breeders site states that it is a light feeder your likely to run 70+.  OK...so between the OG and the Nigerian  she could really take off height wise, and Im vertically challenged.  So heres what I do with plants that could be run aways or I'm training for tops without a screen.

The main gets cut outing then just a little LST, to pull those long arms down and keep them in the light.

IMG_20170904_181520.thumb.jpg.a1e4a7d08c4c69beef8d68fa7475d915.jpg

Looks like Im chasing this one a little bit food wise too, the supposed light feeder.

IMG_20170904_181523.thumb.jpg.87b45382d0188ed849b9812dfb906537.jpg

I'm ramping up the EC on their food as the stretch kicks in.

I make a one part stock solution of 100 grams of Jack Hydroponic and 89 grams of Calnit...disolved into about 5 gallons of water.  Consistent batches of equal ratio and any desired EC is then easily made by adding the stock to any volume of water.

That light green in the pic above is making me think that one , and one or two more might need a stronger feed or little more cal nit...Beuller, anyone?

Gratuitous canopy shot...They still have not been spread  out to the three tables but I am running 4 x 320w leds to throw out a couple more points of light to hit the canopy from.  The add quite a bit of unvented heat so they get run 2 at a time for 15 minutes intervals until the last hour of the light cycle. The plants seem to dig it.

Tomorrow is irrigation day in prep for going to an automated mutlifeed, and I need to hang a couple fan behind the hoods.  Anyhow...enough about me, lets hear about you..lol.

and sfv x og, the other 1, again ...because apparently I just can't edit it out of the post.

Hey Tom,   Sorry to hear about your trouble with the fires up by you.  Glad you found a moment to stop in.

My little pollen swap,... should be interesting.  First time I have kept a couple males for pollen, all in good fun.

Here is one of the two females I have...so far, so good... she is showing a solid frame, with tight nodes and a orange skunky funk.

Ok...a basic tenet of gardening is don't plant too close if you want your plants to perform to their fullest.  Took me years to figure this out, outside in the vegetable garden, even longer inside...what can i say...must be the drain bamage.  I used to plant nine to a light (1k) and it worked out just fine..keep clean down below and shorter plants in the middle.

Last couple runs i have been going down in numbers per table to ease up on the cloning load.  Last run I did four on table and really liked how they filled out.  So much that I'm trying it again....they are about a week and a half in now and the stretch should fill things out nicely....

IMG_20170907_184534.thumb.jpg.e4a33e55dd1f7605a6ccc5227a49cf80.jpg

Last light in the row is HPS, so say good bye to any correct pics for awhile, the other two lights are a 4k and a 6k MH that Solis Tek makes.  They have been getting run for the first couple weeks of flower to see if there is any affect on stretch, and honestly...it does seem to keep my Lifesavers a bit more compact...i have the more sativa leaning stuff under them now.

Here are the SFV OG X Cookieboi again.  Sharing a table with lifesaver...they are eating the same, and would be hard to tell apart if not labeled...

Took those photos through my sunglasses to help get rid of the orange.

This Sweet & Sour Pork is just a beast, has a lot of ECSD going on. Stems are sticky to the touch...and just beasting!  Tons of tops, going to need a net or some other support.

Haven't got the irrigation set up yet, couple days ...no worries.  My dehumidifier is crapping out though, so i butchered a newer one for grow duty...sealing around the filter, so it actually filters and checking for light leaks from the control panel.

Stayed tuned..same bat channel.:passing-joint-smiley-emoticon:

Well,  serves me right.  I treat the local "indoor garden center" with a bit of distain...high prices, poor selection, unknowlegable help..might as well be stocking cabbage for the most part.   But they carried this brand of  compressed Coir that not only was the cheapest i could find, but had the right texture was not loaded with salts, and drum roll please....No Fungus Gnats or other unwanted critters thrown in for free.  I had used the Botanicare 5kg blocks for years..used a lot of Gnatrol WDG too.  Gave this Simple Path brand they carried  a shot...and no more critters to kill.  Yippie!

Stopped in today to pick up a bulk head fitting that met an unfortunate end when I stumbled into it and cracked the neck off, and figured I would stock up on coco while Im here.  Checked the floor ....5 units left, ask dude " hey, more coir in back?....he says "sorry man, they closed shop..wont have that brand anymore. Thats it right there."   Gak! I couldn't believe my ears.   I told him I would take up to a pallet of it if he could get it here.  He is going to, forget..., i mean check on it for me.

In fond remembrance...thanks for the good times Simple Path..you were cheap and bug free, and cheap.IMG_20170908_153228.thumb.jpg.cb9ba9ce62eebf1b8c1703c629cbc028.jpg

In others news I got my replacement bulk head fitting. yay!

So much room for activities in here.....just gonna keep laying' up pics...

Better shots of the Andromeda Strains Sweet & Sour Pork (ECSD-f X Hogzilla-m).  Two of these are coming on pretty quick, but i would like to see a little tighter nodes if they are not going to stretch a bit more..leaning indica stature without huge fans but rotten funk all over...

SSP "X"IMG_20170908_182318.thumb.jpg.afaf5c156f50556902776ad08ae9b6ee.jpgIMG_20170908_182142.thumb.jpg.f032941247a5bc9ff7cbe70cc9b111e2.jpg

SSP "4"IMG_20170908_182151.thumb.jpg.34f5f1b423282ab29f2150826ee4ecfd.jpg

SSP "3"  this one has some nice branching...lots of secondary coming to to the same height as the mains...lots of sour diesel fuel notes.

IMG_20170908_182303.thumb.jpg.531f20237310abfebd9feeb33f90ca05.jpg

And then the SFV OG x Cookieboi ( left side) and Lifesaver (right) table...very similar in color,  fans size stretch and branching...coincidence or something greater?  We may never know.

Sweet-N-Sour Pork is our long standing Sour Diesel cut pollenated by Hogzilla. The end result was a rich and flavorful plant, with high yields, and a very pleasant dreamy effect. Sweet-N-Sour Pork gives you the best of both worlds, Hogzilla having mostly indica genetics, and Sour Diesel mostly sativa this strain really backs a punch. A perfect cross of nearly 50% indica and 50% sativa it’s a strain made for nearly every cannabis user. Sweet-n-Sour brings the yield needed by the commercial grower while having stress relieving, bronchial dilating, and pain relieving effects sought after by many medical users. Make sure you get a pack of the novelty seeds before there gone, and you miss the chance to add them to your collection!

Sex : Regular

Genetics: Sour Diesel (female) HogZilla (male)

Lineage 50% Sativa / 50% Indica

Flower time: Longer end of 56-63 days

Great for indoor and outdoor gardens

Stem rubs do not really smell like dinner but things may change with time...for now they are all kinda sweet/sour to varying degrees.  There is a more ECSD expression that i am liking most for vigor, flower set and stank...it is the "SSP #3" shown a few posts back.

Hooking up my "get'erdone" style drip system tonight...stay tuned...same bat channel.

Hey guys, beers in the fridge....smok'em if ya got 'em, and if you don't I do..so :passing-joint-smiley-emoticon:

This is just a simple, flexible, automated watering rig I like to use with coco when the plants demand water more than once a day.

20 gallon bin for a res, 1/2" pvc made into squares, drilled to let the juice through, and plumbed with 1/4" o.d. tubing that is connected with top hat grommets at the dripper and the manifold.  easy .  A 160 gph pump to keep things stirred in the res.  Use a cheap digital timer that can time down to the second, and your good to go.

I use this same model ECOPLUS 633, 598gph, mag drive on my watering wand and in these drip set ups.  Good pumps for the job, 15' of head, but not designed for pressure.  Plenty of push for this job.

Pictures!

found ya!

I love the drip ring (square) idea!!!

where in the home depot will I find those top hat grommets?  and the two 1/4" lines into the rings is enough to keep even flow thru holes?

you've got to be one of the most innovative dudes around

I feel like I've stolen more ideas from you than anyone else lol.

Everything looks great in here man.  Still curious about that Lifesaver.. I know you dig it big time..

The ones I flowered out were cool.. and smelled okay, but they didn't have any punch

I knew you could.   Good to see ya Trich.

Glad you guys like the drip rig...honestly I just modified the "Pico style manifold" to fit my needs.

You are not likely to find the top hat grommets at HD...check   http://zenhydro.com   or the g store.  no more than .25 cents a piece or you are getting screwed..

One other note....i try to use the HydroFlow brand tubing.  It has a stiffer wall than some of the 1/4" tubing found at Lowe's or HD, which makes it easier to push into the grommet.  If you get the a more flexible brand, like I did the other day today in a pinch, it is a trick to push in....so I lubed the two bits with some sm90..canola oil.. and was able to get them seated.

Plenty of flow using the pump shown, even threw the 4' of 1/4' line, it fills the ring and all holes drip.

Slightly different take on it.   This ring was used to feed 9 plants, 2  x 1/4" lines each.  In this case the manifold sat if the middle of the drain table and the whips were a shorter 2' each.   More Pico manifold ...ish.

IMG_20170915_195932.thumb.jpg.eadfcc66c03808b888507d8520390a01.jpg

I  appreciate the compliment, but I just stole or modified most of it to fit my needs...all in  good fun, and better pot of course.

Yeah, i had purchased a couple packs of new stock Lifesaver about  18 months ago and didn't find any semblance  to the plants that came from the 2005 seed stock...which kinda sucked..because those original seeds were gold....did not find anything to keep in the new stuff.  Sei la vie!

In other news...The stretch is slowing down, and flower set is commencing....getting just the slightest claw on a couple plants....so the jacks to cal nit ratio is getting trimmed back a little to cut  some nitrogen.  Otherwise, knock on wood, everybody looks good.

Till next time....

Just about three weeks in, haven't killed any yet...

Took a couple pics last night, just about three weeks.

Looks like the Sweet&sourpork #4 is the most photogenic so far.  Nice even green, with lots of flowers forming.  Reeks of sour gasoline.IMG_20170918_184421.thumb.jpg.1662492ddce870e17dbd83ab37a3d51a.jpgIMG_20170918_184430.thumb.jpg.423d812f7a3ad88b1f3b0b4033cd4310.jpg

In the upper right corner you can see the stem, of one of the Horace, just shooting through.  Dam thing stretched right out the lightened is taking over that side of it table.  Had to bend it over and tape  it to the wall just to keep it relevant.   you can kind of see it in the room shot.

Gratuitous room shot, in super low definition.

To keep things simple on my end and keep my focus there were to be NO NEW SEED STARTED until the new year.

Here are some pics of freshly sprouted SwampBoys Mojito, and some Platinum Yeti.  So much for simple. Taking care of mom(s) is taking on a whole new meaning this past year.

Hey, been a minute since my last update.   Things are looking good, but it does seem the addition of the Z7 and/or the Recharge has affected my nutrient uptake.   Seemingly making things more available, looks like I'm running a little hot, plants are GREEN and have a little claw on parts of plants that are out on the perimeter..just a touch, but it got my attention.

So I'm backing off on my Calnit a touch.   Normally I make a one part stock....100grams Jacks to 89 grams cal nit in 5gallons and then dilute that down to whatever number I'm feeding...general veg gets 650ppm (.5 scale)on top of my 140ppm tap for a total ppm of 800.  Flower generally got the same, feed at whatever kept them happy and green to the flush....about 1050ppm on top of my 140 tap water.   That put me at roughly almost 1 to .95 ppm wise. All was good.  This round that is proving a little rich.  So i checked the jacks sight for any info and found they had updates some stuff on how to adjust the basic formula and how to achieve the standard mix of 1 to .67 (jacks to calnit measured by ppm).

Just in case you don't want to make 1000 gallons.....

.....I crunched the numbers with their proportions to make 5 gallons.....

18.2g   Jacks

1.4g     Mg(optional)

12.4g  CalNit.

With all that said, Im starting to tapper of my Calnit, slowly,  for flower and  will make my standard for veg....aint broke/don't fix.

The info about how to sub in cal and phos and potassium seemed useful so thought I would share it.

Tips From Jack - J. R. Peters Inc..webarchive

Controlled Environment: Growing hydroponically with Jack’s

General Hydroponic growing with 2 part

Jack’s Professional Hydroponic Formula has been designed to serve as a base foundation for hydroponic growing. It can be manipulated in such a manner as to provide virtually any combination of nutrient levels desired, providing the highest availability to plants, due primarily to Jack’s proven ability to remain in true solution over long periods of time.

Jack’s Professional 5-12-26 Hydroponic

Follow these steps to obtain a precipitate free solution

  1. Dissolve 130 ounces of 5-12-26 Hydroponic in 1000 gallons of final feed solution. You will obtain the following elemental PPM concentrations:
    Element N P K Mg SO4 Fe Mn Zn Cu B Mo
    PPM 50 52 215 63 246 3 .50 .15 .15 .50 .10

For the most effective use of the Hydroponic formula, it is essential that the nutrient content of the irrigation water being used is known. These figures are then taken into consideration and should be added to the distilled water figures as quotes above. This is of special importance when figuring the need for adding more Magnesium (Mg) and Calcium (ca) depending on the needs of the crops being grown.

  2. Dissolve any additional Epsom salts desired into the above 1000-gallon solution before proceeding. For most crops, 50 PPM Magnesium is an adequate level in solution. To increase your Magnesium levels, dissolve 10 ounces of Epsom salts in 1000-gallons of final feed solution to obtain 7.5 PPM additional Magnesium and 3.00 ppm Sulfur (SO4).

IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT ANY EPSOM SALTS TO BE ADDED MUST BE ADDED TO THE HYDROPONIC SOLUTION AND BE DISSOLVED BEFORE THE ADDITION OF CALCIUM NITRATE.

NOTE: Jack’s Hydroponic fertilizer contains NO calcium.

After dissolving Jack’s Hydroponic and any Epsom salts in the tank, proceed as follows:

  3. Dissolve 86 ounces of Calcium Nitrate into the above 1000-gallon solution to obtain a total nutrient concentration of 150 PPM Nitrogen and 116 PPM Calcium.

Should higher Nitrogen and Potassium levels be desired, the addition of 1-ounce Potassium Nitrate per 1000 gallons will add the following concentrations:

    Nitrogen—1.00 ppm N Potassium 2.74 ppm K

Should higher Calcium levels be desired, the addition of 1 ounce Calcium Chloride per 1000-gallons would add the following concentrations:

    Calcium as Ca—2.09 ppm Ca

Should higher Potash levels be desired, the addition of 1 ounce Potassium Sulfate per 1000-gallons would add the following concentrations:

    Potassium as K—3.11 ppm K

Should higher Manganese levels be desired, the addition of 1-ounce Manganese sulfate per 1000 gallons would add the following concentrations:

    Manganese as Mn—1.87 ppm Mn

Should higher Iron levels be desired, the addition of 1 ounce of the following per 1000 gallons will add the following concentrations:

13% Chelated Iron as Fe EDTA — 0.975 ppm Fe
11% Chelated Iron as Fe DTPA — 0.80 ppm Fe
6% Chelated Iron as Fe EDDHA — 0.45 ppm Fe

Jack’s Hydroponic Formula is heavily buffered to produce an idea working solution pH of between 6.00 and 6.50, but under unusual circumstances, it may be necessary to adjust the solution pH up or down with the use of mineral or organic acid complexes. Please consult water quality when choosing amount for pH change.

Made a batch following ppm (.5 scale) as I went...

Jacks = 540 ppm

skipped the epsom

CalNit = 320ppm

Giving a nutrient solution of 860ppm (not including 130ppm of tap water) which is about 200ppm higher than what everything generally gets in veg.  This is also the 1 : .67 ratio that Jacks calls for as a base.   But I know from experience that my plants in veg will show purpling stems and some cal def at these numbers so I bump up the Calnit and feed at about 650ppm those troubles along wth slow rooting clones....go away.  YMMV

As for flower, Im sticking with the plan and just going to taper back on the Calnit to the 1 : .67 value in the 7th week of flower and then glide into the flush diluting my reservoirs with plain tap daily until the chop.

More or less just making notes, that I can find, to myself here about the nutrient adjustments.  Feel free to chime in if you've got some input.

I am not a pot photographer, hell...I'm barely a grower.

Heres a couple shots of on of the Horaces...she an over achiever when it comes to the stretch.  If you squint and don't focus you can see some of her trained branches snaking across the frames.  Lots of early frost and some "funky" terps at 28 days.  Kind of a handful.
