Hi all.

After topping the main stem at node 4 or 5 how long is it advisable to leave

to enable the plant to recover before topping the side branches ? Is it even advisable to top

the side branches at all ? After topping the side branches how long before the plant could be

put on 12/12 ?

I usually do some LST but thought I'd give topping a bash and I know bugger all about it, as you can see.

Thanks in advance !

I would advise you to think about it like a bonsi tree.

Trim for shape and size.

As a general rule for plants don't take more than 1/3 at a time or it can shock the plant.

One factor to consider is every top/growing tip contains most the auxin for the plant.

As for the time frame, a general rule of thumb is to wait at least a week to see and gauge the plants reaction to the treatment applied.

Depending on the vigor of the strain/cultivar you may be able to take all the tops at once.

You may slow growth a bit but you won't really harm the plant.

I would love to hear what others think on this matter.

Peace

Shag

Another thing to consider is the plant only has so much energy.

The more tops you have the smaller they will be.

I think  that it has been found that 4-6 tops will be best for large good yielding buds.

The best tops will be in the upper canopy, but you probably know that...LOL

@shaggy thanks for the replies and info. I actually prefer more numerous medium

sized buds myself. You only end up cutting the large ones up anyway to get the buggers

in the jars (Hehe). I've got a bit more confidence now to give this a go on the next crop.

Thanks again !
