Hello again to everyone in the Lab and beyond. I hope you and yours are happy, healthy, soft in heart and sound in mind.

Please have a seat, relax and enjoy the ride.

Kashmir Azad

 Landrace/Heirloom preservation.

This line was collected and worked by @Barefrog and released by @Bodhi seeds. These seeds were scored at Great Lakes Genetics seed bank with the good fortune of our cosmic brother @GoodEnergyGrower. He thought it a good idea to entrust them to me...we have arrived. Thanks for sharing the love bro!

12/7/19, The first day of flower. The photo period is 12on and 12off. The plants are lit by 1k hps single ended bulbs mounted horizontally in open reflectors.

12/8/19, 2nd day of flower. The plants were sprayed with a horsetail/kelp solution.

12/9/19, 3rd day of flower. A compost/leaf mold tea was watered in to the soil.

12/21/19, 14th day of flower the photo period was reduced by 30 minutes to 11.5 hours on and 12.5 hours off.

Ladies...the 14 day of flower right at the end of the dark cycle, about 20 minutes before the morning of day 15.

Kashmir Azad gentlemen. About 20 minutes before the photoperiod of the 21st day of flower.

12/24/19, Males #5, #15 and #16 started to open some stamen and released pollen.

12/25/19, Males #6 and #17 started to open their stamen and release pollen.

Kashmir #5. Subtle sour cream and onion...a little nuttiness in there maybe?  The scent is faint...it was much more pronounced later in flower.

Kashmir #6. Subtle sweet/pine. The scent brightened up later in flower.

Kashmir #15. He has the fewest open stamen at this point. The stem rub scent has a bright sweetness and tartness...not like a Sweet tart candy. Hes has the shortest structure.

1/4/20, The 28th day in flower.

- The photo period was reduced by 30 minutes to 11 on/13 off.

- The soil was watered with a compost and casting extract/slurry. 4 gallons of water, 1 tsp of molasses, 4 cups of a mix of leaf mold/compost/castings and 1/2 cup of fine crushed bio char. The bio char was fresh from the wood stove and crushed using a pliers. It wasn't hydrated or charged. This mix was aerated for 6 hours. It was stirred and poured over the soil. It was not strained. Each container got about 1/2 gallon. It was watered in slowly so it didn't run out.

#10. Scented of juicy fruit gum and just as sticky.

#8.  Scented of sharp sweets...more of the bubble gum muddled in the mix than #2. She turned out to hold an amazing pink bubble gum stick scent at the end!

1/19/20, The photo period was reduced to 10.5 on/13.5 off.

1/21/20, Each container was topped with 3 gallons of a soil mix. A little Dutch white clover seed was sowed after. The mix seems well balanced. Just a little (N) rich. The flowers pushed out a few more leaves. #2, #4 and #7 were the most sensitive to it. They should be golden to the finish...3-4 more weeks or till the seeds are falling out.

2/8/20, The males at 63 days of flower. They were given photo period stress (Extended hours and reduced hours at random. They were kept in the living room since they were removed from the flowering room). The root systems were disturbed. They were over watered then allowed to dry till now...they are just about dead. I can't find any pistils anywhere on these gentlemen.

2/15/20, The photo period was reduced to 9.5 hours on/14.5 hours off.

A little heavy on the top dress. I underestimated the richness of that BSF larvae biproduct. Looks like some excess (K) is abound. The leaf mold compost has high (K)...it eats too many bananas.

Notes taken on the dry resin scents...

Kashmir #2, The stickiest resin of the group. Scents of vanilla and bubble gum soda...my friend says there is a little fermentation mix in with this one too.

Kashmir #4,  Sweets and lots of sour. A very brightly scented. Sticky resin.

Kashmir #7, Very sweet and sharpe sours with subtle notes of pink bubble gum. Like candy! Sticky resins.

Kashmir #8,  A true pink bubble gum. Just like those dry sticks that were in the old school Topps baseball card wax packs. Sticky resins.

Kashmir #9,  Piney and sweet. More pine than sweets. (This plant had produced a couple late season anthers after 92 days of flowering. No formed stamen or pollen was found.)

Kashmir #10,  A very suble pine over a fruity gum candy scent. The pine scent fades when its worked revealing a bright candy like scent. Reminds me of Juicy Fruit gum. Sticky resins.

Kashmir #11,  Bright sweets over pine.

Kashmir #12,  Sour cream and sharp onion. (This plant had produced a couple late season anthers after 90 days of flowering. No formed stamen or pollen was found.)

Kashmir #13, Sharp onions over tart sours. This one was mentioned to have some fermentation in the flavor blend. The resins from this plant are also very sticky when worked. (This plant had produced a couple late season anthers after 80 days of flowering. No formed stamen or pollen was found.)

Kashmir #14,  Sweets and sterile band aids. The hash from this plant was exceptional. Like sailing through the cosmos in the Heart of Gold ship with an Infinite Improbability Drive propulsion system.

All these Kashmir plants are potent. They make great medicine and wont leave you hanging. With great blends of effects that lean toward the heady side of the spectrum. This turned out to be a wonderful and well selected strain.

Looks lovely, @Kind024  I'm expecting some F2s of these soon and I can't wait.  "Straight smokeable coffee [...] with chocolate, cherries, and oranges showing up" is a descriptor he has used.  The potential for a full on hash run with these girls is too tempting to miss out on.  Keep doing God's work, mate.  👍

Greetings to all in the Lab and beyond.

A few of the Kashmir Azad outside at 46.5* north latitude.

These were a little root bound when they were planted up here. They're still outpacing most of the the other cultivars up here.

Kashmir Azad #8). She holds and unmistakable scent of those dry pink bubble gum sticks in the old Topps baseball card wax packs.

Kashmir Azad #10). She's scented of sweet tangy candies.

Kashmir Azad #14) The sterile bandaid scent has dimmed a little. Now it's blended with a pungent hashy funk.

This is the chosen male that will be keeping the ladies company this year. He was transplanted up with the ladies yesterday. 6/25/20.

Kashmir Azad #5).

Who sells herm beans in sketchy ways like this while others are preserving the same strain and giving it away freely??

what a joke. GLG and you are going to oiss off a lot of people.

good luck

edit- the 100 pack is ‘photo, auto, reg, fem’? Honestly, what in the fack is going on here??

Greetings @Craigson, all the potential intersex seeds were packed and labeled separately. So the grower will have a choice.

Plants that express late season anthers indoors most often times do not express them outdoors.

The Preservation package contains a separate 10ct pack of each of the 10 ladies used in this project. The plants that expressed the late season anthers are also labeled with the day the anther was observed. The seeds are marked as "regular" in the strain description.

The plants that produced intersex all showed after the 80 day mark. This line was not selected past 70 days indoors. Chances are good the plants from those seeds will be fine within 70-75 days of bloom.

The person who collected this line was happy to see this project come to light.

I hope someone takes these seeds and does the same thing with them.

Thank you for the insight, I appreciate your honest opinion.

The ‘20 pk regs’ are being delivered as 15 regs and 5 herms. Thats embarrassing.

and yeah I know, we are making free Azad Kashmir seeds and giving them away on overgrow.com. Stock came straight from Barefrog.

Yourself, Dragboat Jeffrey, and anyone else involved in this should be ashamed.

I dont think that is really fair @Craigson.. a lot of work was put into these and the description is in my opinion very honest about taking them too long and the potential for herms..

That's cool you guys are working to preserve the variety as well, but so are many other projects that are also being made to the public at a price, many without the detailed grow diary descriptions and honesty about potential issues..many other pure lines that where shared are now gone or only exist in crosses or watered down 1:1 breeding programs..

I dont think @Kind024 or @dragboatjeffy has any reason to be ashamed of anything they bring to the community,  i feel it is more than most other seed providers ever do..

In fact before these where released there was a closed doors discussion about including the seeds from the few plants the shot the extremely late male flowers and a good handful of experienced growers and some other seed producers thought it would be a dis service to not include them because the quality of those plants and the lateness of the flowers..

Maybe the label is misleading and it would be better to say 15 seeds and have the others as freebies, but they wont be herm seeds... the mature seeds would all be from Male-female breeding as none of the "herm" seeds would have matured after day 80 being cut within that time period..

Again I'm stoked you guys are also preserving these, its important work, but i dont feel it gives you the right to attack the work of others. They where rare seeds, and not publicly available even if they are being spread in small amounts behind the scenes on your forum..

. if you read through his thread on this project and every other project I have seen @Kind024 undertake you would understand the effort and care gone into being not only an impeccable grower and breeder but as close as possible to being an impeccable human as well... no one else I've seen yet has done more detailed journals, used the same level of organic often wildcrafted feed and ipm,  or been as positive and concerned about the future of the plants and the people who will grow them and it makes me defensive and sad to see you attacking him in public.

Very well said @Coastal@Kind024 you did an incredible job on these, and I don't know if I said it along the way but one of the absolute best and well documented grow logs I have ever seen.

I've been a hobby breeder for a lot of years, and @Craigson it is more common than not when pushing a plant to get ripe seeds that a few banana will show themselves.  Some plants are more prone than others.  This never bothers me.  The only ones that bother me are plants that get a bunch of bananas at 5 weeks into flower.  As said above, it is most likely those seed batches will bloom fine without a bit of trouble under normal flower runs.

We also need to remember this is a landrace line that has not been worked for generations to select to some single outcome.  Even on those "worked" strains bananas are possible in late flower. But also as a landrace, these will hold so many treasures.  Just look at the detailed individual plant descriptions above.

I did not pick up one of the 100 packs but had I, I would have been super stoked that all the plants were included, and labeled.

I've known @dragboatjeffy for a long time too.  He's done so much for so many behind the scenes without anyone even knowing, and his caring, integrity, and commitment to the community are second to none.

Here is a good tip...

Especially good if the male flowers don't show outside.

Lower your hours of light to 10 hours at the end of the flower cycle.

I do this with some cookies crosses and get no late male flowers.

I gave the cut to others, they said why did you give me this hermy shit...LOL

Give it a try.

Also a lot of bottled nutes have auxin and Gibb those both can cause male flowers if used late.

Some late male flowers are caused by the grower.

Let us not forget about products that cause stress to induce trichome production.

Stress can make a perfectly good girl go bad.

So I ask why do the same cuts show male flowers late in some grow rooms and not others?

Some of the answers are above.

Now a full blown hermi is a totally different story here to be clear.

If it were me, I would simply say not tested.

That is not misleading or deceptive.

In fact I feel it is very up front, some folks don't say shit.

Big names like sam the skunkman, nothing but hermi's in that stuff.

He won't tell ya that.

Don't believe me look at the grow reports.

That is just the tip of the iceburg there are a ton of stories like that....LOL

Its sketchy to not tell people that 5 of their 20 seeds are ‘intersex’. Period.

You dont buy an automatic car and go to pick it up and its a standard and then just Say ‘its ok’

It's all good brother @Craigson. I had nothing but the best intentions and felt really good when doing this project and releasing the beans. The question of releasing the "intersex?" pack was discussed before they were released as mentioned above. It's on me if that wasn't clear to anyone who purchased them.

As a preservationist I thought it good idea to release the potential "intersex?" beans. None of those plants expressed any staminate flowers. The were all harvested after 98 days. This was done to preserve as much diversity as possible, not to fool anyone.

Genetics and environment are all relative when growing any living organism. I personally would have no problems trying something with the potental to express late season anthers/intersex at 80+ days. Considering most expressions in this line are ready around day 70.

There is also a photo of the 2 seed packs in the strain description. The seed count of each pack and the "intersex?" pack is labeled and clearly visible in the photo on the GLG website. I made the assumption that everyone reads strain descriptions before making a purchase...that's on me. There is also a link to this thread in the strain description. In which all the info was documented.

To those of you who felt mislead, disrespected or insulted by my actions and/or my description. I ask for forgiveness and send love. It was not my intention to mislead anyone but only to preserve as much diversity as possible.

Well @Kind024 you must be doing some good work, the haters are coming out, lol. 🙄
You had nothing but good intentions and detailed the minor intersex problems in your thread very well.
It's almost expected in a lot of landrace seed strains. You took some great steps in helping to weed those traits out.
I have learned a tremendous amount from your threads on organic growing and I've also picked up some great pointers on becoming a better person.
For that I thank you.

Peace GG

@Craigson why not pop into the introduction thread and let us know a bit about you ?

Well we know that he is a member of overgrow...

I thought that place was kaput ?

evidently not.

Thank you for dropping by @Craigson and letting @Kind024 of your concerns.

As you May have been informed of, this was a genetic preservation project.

Only Early hermaphrodite plants were removed if I remember correctly.

Late male flowers are common on many plants pushed past their  (harvest window).

Female cannabis plants have this built into their genome.. it is literally part of them..

some are triggered more easily than others.

There is a famous Dutch breeder named Soma he uses this natural technique called rodelization ( basically late flowering females producing female pollen) to make female seeds.

It is a common occurrence among Wild cannabis populations to self pollinate to further their genetics into the next season.
I feel that there has been no shenanigans, quite the contrary.

All info has been spelled out...

Each plant was labeled and documented.

I commend @Kind024 for his work.

He has been truthful, peaceful and diligent.

May your group Who are so kind to give away Kashmiri seeds be so painstaking in their endeavors.

Peace
