Absolutely, look forward to seeing you. Country is very wet at this point. Bears everywhere, can start thinning them out now that Aug. 15th has passed. Still waiting on whether I get my licence, hopefully soon.

Felt a breath of fall this week. Being a real softie I did not process the male plants but have been putting them inside at night and trying to keep a reasonable watering schedule going. They are really doing well. Should give you a look, Tom, at their structure etc. Good test for the soil medium, see how the plants do without supplement. The plan now, obviously subject to change :), is to see how long these guys will perform in the soil prepared for them. Apologize for the out of focus shots, really need to get a macro lens. Maybe if I start dropping broad hints now, who knows?

#two is starting to perform as can be seen, that is the mainstream bud that is shown. # one is

where #two was last week and that is the lowest photo. Just ordered an inline fan and should be here none too soon. The humidity is running a bit high (60%) and now that the buds are starting air circulation becomes a bigger factor especially in the tiny little grow room that has been setup.

Some light training keeping colas exposed but not much trimming yet. keep those big fans working for now.

nice @Blake , thx for the update !

they really took off eh?

Looks to me like the dad had a real strong effect as far as the looks of the leaves but the black tuna certainly added to the structure.

Can't wait to see how these finish up for you

Weekly update time. The lads (spending their evenings inside) and otherwise ignored (like many lads) are doing very well. Strong looking plants. Glad I kept them going, going to be lots of material for lotion.IMGP3192.thumb.jpg.9348391484b871fc2f951966ef72e695.jpg

The ladies are doing well. Not as much stretch as I thought and seem to be settling into flower production nicely.  Did some very minor trimming and light training to keep colas exposed. Took two colas off No. One. IMGP3198.thumb.jpg.4c287a0249d03d158ac270264147fcb9.jpgThey have strong light (LED 450W Vivarspectra) and the lower leaves still looking good.

Pinched off a bunch of the flowers starting in obscure places. Probably should be careful from now on in the trimming department as flowering is full on now.  Above photo is the mainstem bud on N. One. Did not top either plant and wish I did now to see comparable yields. Next time. Will also expand the grow room for the next grow as I really like the plants on dollies but it does need more room for four plants if I go that route. Will need another light as well. No 2 is doing well, that is a side view to show training and developing colas and a shot of the mainstem cola.IMGP3197.thumb.jpg.ff272ab291a25fa2aa93a4e2ac9fa203.jpgIMGP3196.thumb.jpg.fc2d021c751b56b522ed28c34b85be4d.jpg

Well Tom, did the dirty deed. Included a couple last look photos for you to ponder. Very healthy plants, withstood adverse conditions, pests, and a small chemical burn( spilled some cleaning solution while cleaning beer bottles 🙂). All in all, a full go around.

Bird season is open in two days!! Weekly update time, actually nine days. Watered (soaked with PH 6 water) with 2 tablespoons of Bloom and handful of bone meal. Soil is not taking water as well as I would like, may make a few changes in that regard next. Nine days since last watering so not bad. Plants (especially #One) were getting droopy. Picked up nicely once soaked. Some flowers showing amber. Cleaned up any leaves not showing good colour (pretty much all the fan leaves) and toyed with the colas. almost clipped two lower ones on #one but will let go another week and see how they stack. Receiving plenty of light if a bit far away. Time will tell.

Bird season has put me seriously on my ass. Chasing Lucy though swamps is something I should spend a month of conditioning beforehand to get ready for. Lots of birds. Update time, almost watered yesterday and plants were a touch dry this morning. Added a handful of bone meal which was soaking since last night, also a handful of worm castings on top. Did not add any 'Bloom' this time around, was just adding a tablespoon each watering so not a big deal anyway. Snipped a few more of the big fans as they were starting to fade away anyway.

NO 2

Those couple of colas poking their noses out in the lower part of this photo were the ones I almost snipped last week. They are receiving light and seem to be doing well. So to the more experienced (approx. 5-6th week of flowering) growers here, should I take these or let them ride?IMGP3227.thumb.jpg.074d3821f2e1a8bf660ec9948e0096a4.jpg

NO 2 is the bigger plant and is supporting more colas, but No 1(wizened stem after transplant) is starting to produce a really nice mainstem cola. No1 sitting on a higher block on the dolly, cannot see it in the photo.

Weekly update: Well my rookie status is showing. Figure it is a bit early for these to be ready but No 2 is showing some signs. This is my second indoor grow and first go around with this seed. Most of the top pistils are amber but some of the lower ones are still not as far along. I think I cooked this plant a little  with the light a few weeks ago. Not entirely sure. She became a slightly lighter green than her sister a couple weeks ago and seemed to stop stacking as much. No 1 is still pushing out new flowers. (both been under the same conditions since day one).

 IMGP3242.thumb.jpg.e7bc2064862bb2c31d994802b73dba3d.jpg

Under LED light so colour is off. That fan is not as rough as the photo shows. This is NO 1 and still putting out new flowers.IMGP3244.thumb.jpg.3e9387c1e098266921341e4f9ef85d41.jpg

No 2 seems seems to be coasting, lower flowers not as completely amber as the top canopy. My jewellers loup does not really bring out the trichomes well enough for me to judge. There are certainly no amber trichomes but they could be cloudy at this point, can't really tell.

IMGP3246.thumb.jpg.cd3a1d774f5a29f273006031202f5f13.jpg

Decided not clip those two lower bandits and they are putting on some weight, new flowers on these for no 2 as well.

So not really sure where my flowering stage is on No 2, No 1 is getting impressive and still producing though.

Soaked them both yesterday, worm castings on top, no bone meal this time, plus a 1/2 tsp of Bloom ( an additive with a small amount of NKP but all the micro nutrients). Starting to use more water. My first grow we had to leave for a trip so a buddy finished up for me, so this is my first full grow. I feel confident in where No 1 is but no 2 is making me nervous. I started wondering if she was a bit nitrogen shy the last week or so. She was bit lighter than her sister and also the lower leaves going off really quickly even though they were getting plenty of light. Something went a bit sideways a couple weeks ago and No1 is now going to finish much stronger. Will watch and wonder a bit more. A late finish on No 2 will give me some sleep inducing buds so not a bad thing.

hopefully these photos will give you an idea of what I am looking at.

 IMGP3268.thumb.jpg.2b862d9fedeedf20d061872e7ab3c122.jpgT

No 2 and the bud has pretty much stalled on mainstem cola. A paler colour of green than No 1 as well. The lower flowers are still working hard on No 2 but the upper canopy is very quiet. There are some flowers starting to pop on the upper canopy of No 2 but nothing like No 1.

IMGP3261.thumb.jpg.5a1967fb6ef7713065a351a752bc33fe.jpg

As you can see No 1 is going nuts. All the buds on her are like this and the main cola is really starting to thicken up. This is a subsidiary bud not the main cola. There is a bit of tip burn but that is all. The colour difference is not as pronounced as the photos show but it is pronounced enough to be a major difference. NO 1 is very impressive at this time.

No 2: whatever major shock this plant absorbed she is once again starting to produce fresh pistils amongst the brown ones particularly on the lower subsidiary colas. Those two bandits are really looking good. A bunch of looks at different colas on No 2.

IMGP3284.thumb.jpg.27be79081d9888a05d4ddd12769758b3.jpgIMGP3282.thumb.jpg.672436b6678ec3c71a234137a1ad8729.jpgIMGP3281.thumb.jpg.40ffba5693f8ec228b417280bd7a91a0.jpg

Not sure if you can see but there are fresh pistils and the buds seem to be building again. So a comeback, too bad this could have been a real producer if she had not lost two plus weeks. Now for the pride of the ball strutting her stuff. That is the same cola from last week so still really active.

IMGP3287.thumb.jpg.2e15ecf34c5a06f384dfff7af00a91a9.jpgIMGP3280.thumb.jpg.efaecbbe22591dd074bcef9a7868e4b9.jpg

So uncharted territory for this newbie but my guess is we are getting within a week or two ???? As long as she is working hard like this OK but I am guessing I should be paying close attention to harvest at peak potency?? Looking closer at one of the photos it can be shown that there was some CO2 production taking place as well. Watering every five days but no soaking anymore.

I would be looking at somewhere in the 9 to 10 week ballpark for flowering time on the Black Scratch

they are putting the frost on now 😉

I would expect them to continue to swell right up to harvest week as both of those parent lines put most of their "show" on in the final weeks.

looks like they are purpling up eh?

Link to comment

Yes, the leaves starting turning a week or so ago. I am leaving on leaves that are not shading anything, figure it can't hurt anything. The fresh leaf growth on No 2 is the same healthy dark green as No 1, so my guess is she is back on track. I am ignoring the brown pistils and treating her like No 1 as far as maturity. No amber trichomes anywhere.

Not sure what I did there, thought I posted to this contest thread and no idea where it is????? I will do it again and hopefully wherever it ended up it is not causing any problems :).

This is both plants, No1 is closest and the main cola is on the left. She is actively pushing out new flowers every day.

IMGP3294.thumb.jpg.ccf732c0bdaf15145192818d48351a88.jpg

This is the mainstream cola of No 2 and slowly starting to fill out, still not as active as No 1 but picking up speed.

This is a typical cola on No 1, very healthy production. Just adding water every five days right now but not a soak anymore. The leaves are getting a nice shade of purple.

Plants are entering their 10th week of flowering and no amber trichomes that I can see. Buds seem to be stacking some more. Topped #2 on Friday as those colas seemed to be completely stalled. Those buds are working again so maybe should have topped them a couple/three weeks ago. IMGP3309.thumb.jpg.47846ec562d130a1fd4ca8eedcbdf318.jpg

Not quite a week since last update. The contest is over but given the # of views it would seem there are people following this grow so will continue to update and give a dried weight once that occurs. As previously mentioned I am a newbie grower so any and all comments welcome. In no man's land right now for my experience in judging trichome development and readiness to harvest.. In the middle of the 10th week of flowering. No 2 was seriously compromised about a month ago and production was negatively impacted but she survived and will produce. The bud on #2 that is building the best is a late comer and was not affected by the trauma the plant received. IMG_0178.thumb.jpg.da157c43f0d2d698f9833e79f47a2e70.jpg

No 1 is closest and still actively building buds, pistils still popping and while trichomes appear somewhat cloudy (should have been a politician after that description, election day today in Canada 🙂 ) No 2 the far plant is noticeably less robust. After topping all the colas (6 gms dry weight) on No 2 a week ago Friday there is some new growth. No amber trichomes so will continue to monitor.

IMG_0175.thumb.jpg.8c5e0d1598c53271080d5d960dace970.jpg

This is the same subsidiary cola that has been shown for No1 the last month. Still working hard as can bee seen.

Main cola on No1, still working hard, no amber trichomes yet.

This is main cola on the damaged No 2 10 days after topping main bud. There is a subsidiary cola that is stacking now but pretty much the only one on the plant. Some pistils still popping but pretty restrained compared to No1. Will harvest when No 1 dictates.

As mentioned this is totally new territory for me so any comments welcome. Guessing these plants are very close and are being closely monitored by me, for whatever that is worth. Enjoying every minute. Thanks for looking.

  • 2 weeks later...

Not long after posting the above update noticed a couple hermies starting to pop so harvested both plants right away. Tough learning curve for this newbie, just have to learn the hard way, I guess. Harvested them during 11th week of flowering, trichomes cloudy but no amber yet. Bought a new fan for the grow room about three weeks ago and it was a real improvement, unfortunately did not notice the light display on the controls literally lit the room up 24/7. Morning of day three I clued in and covered the controls with black tape. Thought I had gotten away with it, but I guess not. Anyway it was a real solid growing experience and the room is pretty much dialled in now. Just over three Oz's of dried bud so pretty happy with the yield considering the setbacks these plants endured. Just put four seedlings into the grow room that are about four nodes right now. Going to top them at six nodes and then again, the 'manifold technique' . Have a good idea what these plants will do now. Going to veg at least one week longer this time around. The pots were big enough and the soil did not get exhausted so no changes there.
