Not sure how I missed this thread, interesting read, can't imagine how anyone who gets to witness you in action would be complaining about you.

thanx man, those kinda comments mean a lot 😉

No one has ever challenged me on the work I've done so far with the shiskaberry. Ever since I started back at this I have been an open book about it because I know there are different views on working lines like these. It's been 20 years + since this line was originally released so I don't really have any misgivings about what I'm up to.

I reached out to breeder steve thru that website but it's been some time and no reply so who knows.

I'm sure if he cared what I was up to he would reply haha

Barney's Farm released a bunch of house brand stuff and beside each strain name the put a trademark symbol..... Shiskaberry is one of those strains and from what I hear, Steve is none too happy.

So.... I don't wanna be like the folks at Barney's Farm and have the community mad at me for hackin on someone else's work if that makes sense.

So I figure the next release for this line won't be the IBL , not sure releasing that is kosher in the grand scheme of things.

But..... I am going to combine LMZ with the Shiskabah

I have found some sticky stem rub males and females that have the structure, leaf type and stem rubs that I'm looking for. The similarities in these are from using the same males fro the two lines. Shiskabah used the Shiskaberry 3 f2 males #4 and #7 onto the 98 shiskaberry f1 , and I used only one of those males on the Nuken to create the LMZ.

Combining Shiskabah and LMZ , using shiskabah selections for the mum and LMZ for the dad should give us some exceptional beans to go thru, full of afghan goodness 🙂

so that's the plan with the Shiska…….. can you dig it?

Me too @Tynehead Tom I would love a good outdoor plant the nuken did great outside I bought that a grapeskunk from a bc grower who sold cuttings only! Wish I still had the grape skunk

I really liked the shishkabah you made... even more than shishkaberry I remember from back in the day.. I think I liked the afghani side and the shishkaberry3 is the Bx to the Affie side I think?

either way those seeds you gave me where awesome and I got a crazy few plants out of it including the male I hit to that HP line female I had, and a crazy stinky female I did a F2 with.., those seeds are proving really stinky and consistent too!

I have a bunch of them going right now. They are the selections I pulled from the latest pheno hunt.

I have already pulled and topped a couple males that have greasy and tacky stem rubs and just reek.

During the past few seed pops we have pretty much found that 75% of the offspring are holding the stem rubs, leaf markers and structure. The outlyers are 50/50 split of narrower leafed, flatter stem rub/single pole with a sharp stem rub that isn't greasy but smells close to the desired trait...… These also show the leaf identifier.

In the selection for the next large seed batch, Stem rub traits... sticky sharp earthy sickly sweet with a hint of hash and melons.... maybe some would claim grapefruit...…..heavily serrated leaves throughout the plant,, robust root structure, spider mite resistant and that classic, open Christmas tree structure with upswept branches and heavy knuckles at the nodes. I'll get some pics once I've thinned things down a bit in my greenhouse but right now there are 4 selected Shiskabah females starting the flowering run to be seeded.

I also have LMZ and my shiskabah line B pheno hunt selections made and males are doing their thing in the chamber and the girls will be ripe for receiving pollen in a few weeks.

Gonna be some classic old school beans , untouched by the genetics of the last decade or so 🙂

update..... no pics but I'll try and take some before plants go to sleep in the shed.

I've made my selections for what I hope is a pretty massive seed haul, hope mother nature cooperates.

So a few things are going on here. I don't want to bottle neck the hell out of this work so part of the project was searching very closely related genetics for old school skiskaberry.

I chose Nuken and C4 because I have grown many seeds of both and selection for shiskaberry was fairly easy. I don't talk about C4 much just due to the internet drama pertaining to it's "breeder". Anyhow, I started with C4 the same time I started the shiskaberry and hunted thru 40 seeds over a period of time. From those a shiskaberry selective open pollination was made (3females/2males). I had friends pheno hunt those and I was able to do selection of the F2's and subsequent F3..... bottlenecking to the shiskaberry in all selections.

I haven't had a tonne of time to work the LMZ, which came from crossing Nuken male to shiskaberry 3 f2 serrated leaf male.

So in this run of crosses it will go as follows

Shiskabah x LMZ

LMZ x Shiskabah

LMZ f3

C4 F4

C4f3x Shiskabah

Shiskabah x c4f3

I'll probably do a release of something from that list while I pheno hunt it all for the males to BX to 98 shiskaberry F1(2016 cut, mother of Shiskabah)

not the greatest pics but here is a group shot in the shed of the females and I pulled one aside to show the structure. They are pretty much 4 feet tall from the soil now and stretched more than I would like due to a bit of crowding and endless unsettled stormy weather for the past 3 or 4 weeks. Been a really wet, windy and cool season here and we are still waiting for "summer" weather. Regardless, another couple weeks I will be knocking them all up 🙂

  • 5 weeks later...

day 44 and the fade is coming naturally to this specimen of a Shiskaberry phenotype. She is now off the feed and is getting gypsum/molasses for a week and water after that.

She will finish before 56 days I'm thinking.... Love the old school ghani/berry smells coming off this girl 🙂

Thanks @Tynehead Tom, my girlfriend just went to her families for the holiday weekend, now I have my old girl Shiskaberry to fantasize about....mmmmmmm

She was my bottom bitch for a looooooong time until Hurricane Katrina killed her.....

well, hopefully the branches I dusted on the final 6 girls in the Tyne's Shisk breeding group have a good seed set.

There was a certain expression from back in the day that I have been chasing and trying to lock down. I find hints of her in many of the plants but never really the full package (for that expression). With these final selections I have found strong representations of that expression so I'm super stoked to get these beans harvested, dried and into test grow format.

I get a lot of folks contacting me about this project so kinda feel some pressure to get it right before I release it. I think when I'm finally done, it will have encompassed 4 years of work and want it to be worth it hehehe

You have any of the Shiskaberry lines your working that need teasting?

not yet man.

Waiting on these ladies to ripen, harvest the seed and then once the seed lots are dried and counted I'll see what goes on.

I want to run a test grow at the same time as other potential test growers so we can compare and I can evaluate.

When the time comes I'll spread the word.

more Shiska porn 🙂

This one is darn near done. Will give her till the weekend and she will get the chop along with a couple others that are done too. There is ambers just starting to show in the trichomes so I could easily take these in the 49 to 53 day period.

And the stinky pinky LMZ..... she went from a dank fruity smell to straight up pineapple with a really sharp fuelly edge. fuk ya! LOL

I might give her to 9 weeks..... we'll see. I'm watching trichomes every morning now.

The seed that is going to come off this girl is going to open up a wild buffet of old school flavors and expressions.... I'm real excited to start pheno hunting these.

The Shiskas and LMZ plants are all down and hanging. wanted to get some more pics but the weather went and shit the bed here and just needed to get these  girls down fast.

All of them showing slight ambers and definitely done inside the 49 to 56 day harvest window.

Will get some cured shots and hopefully these plants made me a pile of fresh seed 🙂
