shaggy
Anyone ever add a tiny amount of gibberelic acid or better yet IAA or other auxin to a seed that just cracks and seems to stop growing? I have heard tale of this in the past but no one ever describes the process. Some folks here were just speaking of this in a different thread. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance! shaggy
So none of you adventurous types wanted to try this? I used a tiny amount of brassinolide and an eye dropper with great success with seeds that would pop a tail and never grow. If anyone has questions feel free to ask. This to me is big news! shaggy
Well I do know some of you have use Gibberellic acid on seeds to help them get started. Here is why that may not be the best idea. For one Gibb. is the male hormone in cannabis and could lead to intersex issues. As a growth hormone, Gibb. or GA has the potential to mutate genetic material, so by using GA to play with a plant’s growth cycle we may accidentally cause a mutation to occur. These mutations are not controllable by any means and the results can even cause plant death. I have found Brassinolide to be a good replacement. I feel IAA is a good choice for this also. I will try a combination of the 2 in the near future. Oregon Dept of Agriculture tests microbial claims on consumer products What is Vapor Pressure Deficit (VPD)? Includes a VPD chart. crownpoodle
IThat's interesting @shaggy. I had some seeds, not old ones, do that. Crack. Poke a tip out then stop. I was bummed. I see a bunch listed for sale, but is it the right product? Link to comment
TopShelfTrees
I’ve used the pepper seed packs with great success twice on 15 year old beans once and the others who knows but they were ancient. Only lost a couple. I definitely need something on hand as I have some old stock that will need to be popped soon. Interested for sure Link to comment

Same principle? Is there a time window to use it once seeds pop? The ones I had that popped and stopped just rotted. Link to comment
TopShelfTrees
Not really a limit, I’ve heard of real old seeds popping, it was these packs that are supposed to help start seeds I was given pepper starter pack or something it was called (many moons ago) someone was talking about using fruits veggies as a starter on another site a while ago I remember. Second time ever hearing of that, gotta look it up now Link to comment
TopShelfTrees
I actually had a brand new seed (well 3 months old) a few days back, split, opened started to protrude and just fizzled out. From Copa too, weird. Him and I were just discussing this in fact Link to comment

This uses Gibb from the seeds to do the work. This is enough for 5-7 people to share if need be. Here is a small pack of Brassinolide on ebay. https://www.ebay.com/itm/323898501378?hash=item4b69dae902:g:84QAAOSwuY1daCHA You only need a tiny amount.
